The View From Here

Hi Everyone.
This week I thought I would share a couple of pictures to show you what is in bloom right now and the views we have from our back deck. Right now we are in dry season and have not had a drop of rain since the middle of December. During this season we also get very high winds which dries things out even more. As you can see the only green grass we have right now is around the palm trees which we have been watering.
On the one corner of our property is a very old huge tree and right now it is covered in small orange blooming orchids. It is amazing how nature plants things.

In our garden the one Bromeliad is blooming and in different spots on the property these Amarilys have popped up and come into bloom.

The following are views from our porch of the mountains that surround us with all there lush growth.

This one shows our coffee plants which really need a good rain which will happen next month when we start to get our torrential rainfalls.

 Bye for now.

A Bit Of Origami

I have been taking a little break from Tatting and doing some Origami. I really enjoy how you can take a square of paper and make so many different things. I am really excited as I have just ordered a new book called Origami Design Secrets: Mathematical Methods For An Ancient Art, Second Edition. The book is almost 800 pages and teaches you how design your own origami models.

Here are a few models I have been making.

Moon Rise

This is just a quick post and I will be doing another by the weekend. This is the view of the full moon rising taken from our back deck. In Panama when we get a full moon it is so much brighter than it was in Canada that it is almost as bright as the start of sunrise. Hope you enjoy.

Tatting a Jan Stawasz Doily

I was very sad to hear about the passing of Jan Stawasz a while ago and ordered his two books before they went out of print because I love making Doilies and he made BIG ones. This is the start of doily #1 from his book Tatting Theory and Patterns. I started this one in size 20 thread so that I could get used to his style of Tatting. The problem is that I hate using thread this thick and prefer to do doilies in size 80 thread so I think I am only going to Tat 2 more rows and then start it in a thread color that I like in size 80.

All the Blooms

Hi Everyone.
The weather here is beautiful right now with daily high's around 25C and lows of 18C so very comfortable the only downside is that we are in dry season so we have not had a drop of rain since late December but this is the season when a lot of tree's and plants come into bloom so I thought I would share some pictures with you.

This is our very large Pear Cactus.

This is a Yucca that is in bloom.

These are our coffee plants that where in bloom for 2 days.

The following pictures are of the blooms and fruit of our very large Malay Apple tree. You have to stand under the tree to see them well because they bloom along the branches and the leaves cover most of the blooms. The fruit is tasty and sweet but a soft texture. The neat thing right now is that the area under the tree is bright pink with all the fallen blooms.

My next posting will be of my Tatting progress on a very large doily I am presently tatting and maybe some of my Origami. Happy Tatting everyone.
