Garden Tour GIVEAWAY

Well I have decided to present the pictures of my gardens in a different format this year. They are in a slide show and it is about 4 1/2 minutes long and presents some interesting shots that will make you have to guess as to what they are. Now for the fun part. The GIVEAWAY. There are pictures of two plants that where on the planet or are a direct descendant of a plant that was on the planet when dinosaurs roamed the earth. The first person to guess which plant it is and give the correct common name for it will win a bookmark tatted in HDT by yours truly. Good luck and I hope you have fun. Please leave a way to contact you.

UPDATE: The 2 bookmarks have been won but to keep people interested in viewing the Garden Tour I have added a THIRD PRIZE, another bookmark. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment about the Garden Tour and your name will be entered in a draw to be held September 3, 2009. One entry per person.

I'm thinking it's the ginko tree, although it could be any of the ferns you have as well. I'm not up on all the names of the different ferns.

Hi Clyde!

I think that fernplants and pinetrees were the first plants on earth

The hibiscus and the Palm plant? Those are two that I recognize that might be alive back then. OK....so I might have done a bit of research: http://www.dinosaurgardenplants.com/

My dad is a geologist and has taught paleontology. I tried to do an educated guess. But I bet he would know more. ;)

Well...heck I guess I don't have a chance after Mark decided to do a research. I would have guessed either fern, venus fly trap or orchids myself...without the research. So I guess I am wrong and have missed the boat and the tatted bookmark.

I assumed it was either the little palm tree or one of the ferns as I didn't see a ginko tree in the slide show. But, it also looks like we've been scooped by a researcher!

It is the Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta) at the end. They are native to the Far East. Also known as Living Fossils

You have the most beautiful garden!!

How about the tatting fern plant

My guess is a fern, but I'm terrible with plants!

It would be a lovely experience to be walking through your garden. I love gardens, I just don't know how to 'grow' one, :)

I don't know enough about names of plants to make a guess, :( but I will also go for the palm-like plant.

Well, I was going to say the venus fly trap, LOL! Fern sounds good, too!

I might as well have go. I would say the (King) Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta), and perhaps the Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei, I think). You do have a beautiful garden.

Everyone who leaves a comment about the garden tour will have there name entered into a draw for a third bookmark. One chance per person. Draw to be held on September 3, 2009. Good Luck.

Horse's tail. Well, that's what we call it in the UK. A 'ferny' looking plant with very long roots - usually found in wooded areas.

I looked hard for a ginko but didn't see one. I was going to guess the cycad and the Trachycarpus. We have all three of these.
Lovely lovely garden Clyde. Thanks for the show.

I can smell your garden all the way here in Canandaigua, New York if you can believe that. I love flowers and have some planted in my yard...including Lilacs, Butterfly Bush and I even have a fern that I brought back with me from the Adirondacks many years ago...I also bought back a pine then too...they were for the memories. Both are still alive...But I love the smell of alot of flowers in a garden and nothing smells sweeter than a garden after a good soaking rain. Thanks for sharing your garden with me.
Signed,
Sherry who is still seeing green grass and not the yellow grass stuff yet..that is how cool and how much rain we got this year.

Oh Clyde, Regret to hear about your health challenges; and isn't it wonderful that we have tatting to fill in the time and get our minds of some of the pain. I know it is great therapy for me.
My DH is in great pain now. The new procedure for the heart valve is less invasive but quite a lot more painful that the old-fashioned way. OH Great, poor DH is on morphine and percocet and still has breakthrough pain. I feel bad for him, but have to 'bully' him to eat soup, Ensure. I'm not use to raising my voice or being harsh with him; but, he is listening when I "order" him to breathe, uncross his ankles, and EAT....2 days out from surgery.
I missed your contest but my guess was ginkio; however, I didn't see a leaf or tree either...LOL At one time we lived near a petrified forest and there were a lot of ginko trees.
My best to you...hang in there, Bev

Oh, what a beautiful garden!!!!!!!!!
Before seeing the tour I would have said a fern - and there it was. I didn't see a ginko either.
But no way - I'm too late to take part in the first challenge so I have to keep my fingers crossed for sheer luck ;-)

Clyde, your garden looks lovely. The flowers are so bright and the greens so vibrant. I love that you have a bench there. Do you go there to tat in the sun?

Valerie said...

Clyde, I thought I was viewing a botanical garden. Some of the plants you have can be found in my local Botanical Gardens! It's amazingly well taken care of (imagine the amount of TLC and effort!) and I would love to just sit and tat or read. Your garden is such a joy. Thanks for sharing.

Great slideshow and such beautiful garden! I can hardly grow anything myself - no green fingers; so can only admire what others grow. We have a hortpark and botanical garden here, that's why we usually go to admire the greens and the flowers.
