3 New Tatters

Well today was the big day. It was the first class for my three new tatting students. I present each student with a written history of tatting and a sheet of short forms that are used in patterns. After giving them a brief oral history on tatting and a discussion on types of shuttles and thread we made our way to the dreaded double stitch. I always love the reaction from students when they finally get the flip and realize what it is. It always gives them such a feeling of accomplishment. All three students succeeded and were sent home to practice making chains until next week. It is going to be a lot of fun teaching this group.

Oh congratulations Clyde! What an accomplishment! It is a gratifying feeling when what you are trying to teach actually "clicks" with the student isn't it?

What fun! I have a parent volunteer at school who has expressed a mild interest in tatting. Maybe if I take some examples along I can entice her to learn. After all, the world does need more tatters!

Yes Sherry it is a wonderful feeling when it clicks with the student. Diane I would highly recommend showing some samples of your beautiful tatting to the parent volunteer because you are right the world needs more tatters because we are wonderful people.

Add my congratulations in here too. It sounds like you had it well thought out. I'm sure they were all very pleased and you were too. Well done.

Well done, Clyde, how exciting! I love the feeling when you teach tatting and someone "gets it". I taught a class at the local library once and was told I had 4 students, there were 23! I announced we would all leave tatting - it got scary near the end - hehehehehehehe.
Keep us up to date!

Clyde -
I would teach 2 - 3 near me and then tell them the best way to learn was to immediately teach what you had learned.

Then I would give them 1 - 2 people, I would move on and then check their students.

OK - I was reeeeeally exhausted!
